Hey guys. This will be my first tutorial ever on the internet, so please bear with me, okay.
Anyway, I’ll show you guys how I made my desktop (Windows XP) look like this:
I am using YukiZakura Visual Theme and RocketDock.
So yeah, let’s start.
First of all, you might want to clean your desktop icons. And by doing that without really deleting your desktop icons, just Right Click > Arrange Icons By > Uncheck the Show desktop icons.
Once you got rid of your desktop icons, go to this site. This is where I got the YukiZakura Visual Theme. The website is in Japanese, but you don’t really need to read it. Once you get to the site, you’ll know. But in case you don’t, I’ll guide you.
I got my visual theme on No13 (as you can see, I box-ed it), but you can browse through No1 to No15. Since I’m using YukiZakura Visual Theme, I will be focusing on this one. Click on Download below the YukiZakura Visual Theme.
Open your downloaded YukiZakura Visual Theme file.
Since the file is in .zip format, you’ll need to extract it. Save it wherever you want in your computer.
The .zip file icon will change, and will look like this:
Now that the file is already extracted, open the Yukizakura folder. This is what you’ll see when you open it:
Open the Windows Visual Style File. Double Click it, and a dialog box will appear. You just have to click OK or Apply.
After clicking OK or Apply, this is what you will get:
Okay, so we’re done with the first part. You now have YukiZakura Visual Theme on your desktop. It looks cute, doesn’t it? But wait, there’s more!
To make it look even cuter, I decided to download RocketDock. RocketDock is a smoothly animated, alpha-blended application launcher. It provides a nice clean interface to drop shortcuts on for easy access and organization. This RocketDock is somehow just like the dock on a Mac.
After clicking the Download RocketDock, this will probably appear on your browser if you’re using Google Chrome:
Just click on Save. After saving, open it. Another dialog box will appear, and just click on Run.
I’m assuming you know how this works after you click run, yes? If not, just follow all the instructions that will appear. Make sure you read extra carefully. When you’re done with this, you’re done with the second part. If you don’t see your RocketDock on your desktop, open it from the Start Button > All Programs > RocketDock > RocketDock. To make sure this will automatically appear when you start your computer, right click on the dock, and click Dock Settings > General tab > check Run at Startup check box.
RocketDock has its own icons but you can still customize it if you want to and it’s as easy as ABC. I will be showing you how to change your icons. For my “kawaii pink desktop“, I used StopDreaming‘s Albook Extended Pussy 710 PNG icons. I recommend this because it has a lot of icons in it, you can choose whatever you want for your RocketDock. Download the .rar file. I box-ed it up so that you can see easily.
Since the file is in .rar format, you will be asked again to extract it. Save it wherever you want, but make sure you can find it easily.
After extracting it, right click on your the icon on your dock that you want to change > Icon Settings.
Locate the folder where you save the file you extracted. Choose any icon you want for your application. Then click OK.
Once you changed all the icons you want to change, you can now move on with the next step. This next step is only optional. Since I want my desktop to look a bit different than the usual Windows XP desktop, I decided to put my taskbar at the upper area of my screen. To be able to do this, first, you have to unlock your taskbar. How do we do that? Just right click on your taskbar and uncheck (take note, UNCHECK!) the Lock the Taskbar. After unlocking it, drag your taskbar to the upper area of your screen.
Now that your taskbar’s located at the upper area of your screen, make sure you lock it there. Just do the same steps we did earlier.
The next step will also be optional. It’s up to you if you still want to apply this to your RocketDock. Right click on your RocketDock > Dock Settings > Style tab > Blank. There are other styles too. After deciding on what style to apply on your dock, click OK.
After all these, your desktop should look like this:
Except for the wallpaper, of course. It still depends on you. But if you want this wallpaper, here’s the link.
That’s it. It’s pretty easy, isn’t it? Now, have fun and enjoy your desktop’s new kawaii pink look!
Leave some comments and share your desktop’s new look here if you want to!
